Youth Mental Health First Aid Online

Become a youth mental health first aider via online live virtual classroom training with our experienced and accredited instructors. MHFA England youth courses are an in-depth look at mental health and the factors that can affect young peoples wellbeing and are suitable for adults who work with, live with or support young people aged 8 - 18 years.

 

This course will give you in-depth skills to recognise and provide first aid to a young person who may be experiencing depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts or crisis, eating disorders or self-harm. See the full youth mental health first aid course outline. 

 

At the end of the training you will get a certificate to say you are a Youth Mental Health First Aider and join a community of over 5 million people worldwide who are trained in MHFA skills.

  • What to expect on the day
    Learning takes place through a medley of group discussions, videos, workshop activities and case studies. The pace is kept light and easy to follow whilst being incredibly thought-provoking.
  • Learning outcomes
    Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first level support and early intervention. Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports. Practise active listening and empathy. Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma. Discuss the MHFAider® role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality. Practise self-care.
  • What are the training options?
    In-person classroom training: We currently run in-person mental health first aid courses where individual places can be booked. The classroom format is two days training. See locations at bottom of this web page. ​ Online deliveries: Same training and certificate, delivered via live virtual classrooms- Mental health first aid online ​ Private group training: If you have six or more people to train you have the option to chose your own dates and schedule.

Online Course Outline

The online course is split into four manageable sessions and learning is divided between self-lead learning and live interactive sessions;

Self-lead learning format

(approx 4 hours)

An intuitive and interactive platform which guides you through learning via videos, work book activities, quizzes and manual reading. 

Live sessions (4 x 2.5 hour sessions)

Facilitated by an accredited and experienced Mental Health First Aid Instructors via the MHFA England online learning hub platform which is easy to use and access. We guide learners through the course with presentations, group discussions and activities. Participation within learners comfort zones is actively encouraged discussion and exploration of the topics. 

Please note course capacity is limited so we can keep the training effective. 

You must attend all four live sessions and complete the self lead learning to be signed off as a Youth Mental Health First Aider.

We have a tech support on each course to ensure we can keep everyone supported whilst learning. We also limit youth MHFA course numbers to a maximum of 14 people. â€‹
